“There are no specific laws relating to political funding.

Every political party, including the Opposition, requires political funding.

I suggested it four years ago, but it was shot down by the Opposition.

They didn’t want it because some businessmen, seemingly friendly with BN, also buy “insurance policy” and contribute to the Opposition.

Nature of RM2.6bil donation

“We are not the only ones. If they like you and the relationship is personal, it happens.

It is not on an institutional basis or party basis. It is personal, that’s why they insisted it should be personal to me.

That was the wish of the donors, I didn’t want to offend them. It went into my personal account, but not in the sense that I use it for everyday expenses.”

Najib’s efforts to wriggle off the hook are every bit as much of a public embarrassment as the ludicrous excuses of his countryman Mohammed Rizalman.

This is even though he has staged his own questioning, which is a luxury not afforded to the sex offender, who has been raising guffaws in a New Zealand courthouse.

“They like you and it happens” Najib shrugs, revealing that when it comes to billion dollar donors he is no less fanciful than Rizalman, who informed New Zealand that if a Malay girl smiles she is considered available.

The PM goes on to blame the opposition for his shadowy 2.6 billion handout.  He would have cleaned up political funding years ago, he explains, but those opposition people stopped it … so what is a chap to do?

Are we therefore to understand that UMNO would have transformed the country into a model of clean government these past 60 years, if only it had not been for that handful of opposition MPs?

Like Rizalman, Najib has been caught with his pants off and his tangled excuses wash with no one.  Every word he utters on this matter simply embarrasses his country further.
