The Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s speech at the Dewan Rakyat today should put to rest accusations that the Perikatan Nasional-led government is a “backdoor government”, said Umno supreme council member Razlan Rafii.

Razlan said Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah’s speech has laid bare that the fall of the Pakatan Harapan-led government was then premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s own doing, and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had appointed Pagoh MP Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister in accordance to the Federal Constitution.

“This proves Muhyiddin’s government is legitimate under the Federal Constitution, and should not be questioned as a ‘backdoor government’ because his appointment was clearly done in accordance with constitutional provisions.

“As such, I urge the opposition not to be traitorous towards the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s appointment of prime minister. The new government was chosen after Harapan’s own prime minister had resigned, causing the collapse of the 22-month-old government.

“This has absolutely nothing to do with any political manoeuvring including by Umno, which was just watching Harapan’s classical drama performance at the time,” he said in a statement today.

UMNO have shown themselves not only proven liars but predictable ones time and again, so this tack came fully predicted.

The Agong’s speech is written by the government, one that has in this case not been legitimised. It is not for the Agong to legitimise a government, only to appoint a prime minister whom he believes can form a majority.

His speech does not prove the PN government has a majority and is therefore legitimate.

That majority has to be tested in Parliament and this PN bunch have been running away from Parliament for weeks, whilst at the same time raising billions and handing themselves plum posts and positions (and letting themselves off criminal charges) in the hope that by putting the cart before the horse they can somehow drive this coup forward to completion.

Everyone can see the fast one they are trying to pull, which is why they sent a low level fellow like this out to make the embarrassing claim and try to sound off threats and rile people up to attack rightful critics of their misdeeds.
