In a call to arms, today’s Friday sermon asks the Muslim community to help counter the “cancer and virus” of “liberal forces” that have hijacked the Internet, turning it into a diabolical weapon to undermine Islam in Malaysia.

“In the context of anti-Islamic challenge through the great information technology, it is the duty and responsibility of Muslims to use whatever reasonable strategy, including the social media, to fight against, answer and repel the propaganda and tricks of the enemies of Islam,” reads the sermon prepared by the Islamic Development Department (Jakim).

This is what happens when a government department is given the task of writing what is to be preached in the name of religion. BN Ministers confuse their own self-interest with religious truth and they are now attempting to accuse those who criticise their own corrupt practices of attacking Islam itself. BN politicians are not God or messengers of God; they are not even qualified to preach about Islam. They should leave the sermons to those religious teachers who are qualified to address their flock and not force them to all read out politically motivated messages each week in every mosque across the land. By doing so they only discredit their own religion.
